Common Questions
Before You Award a Contract
Answers to what procurement teams and project managers actually ask before appointing a civil contractor.
What does CIDB Grade 7 mean for Mbombi Holdings?
Grade 7 is the second-highest CIDB classification, one tier below unlimited. Our CE and GB registrations (CRS No. 10053895) carry a R60 million tender value limit per class of works — meaning we qualify independently for large-scale contracts without needing a joint venture partner.
What is a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor, and why does it matter?
Level 1 is the highest B-BBEE rating, carrying 135% procurement recognition — a client spending R1 million with us can claim R1.35 million toward their own preferential procurement scorecard. For government, SOE and mining clients with transformation targets, this is a direct, measurable benefit.
Is Mbombi Holdings compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act?
Yes. We maintain a comprehensive OHS policy aligned with Act 85 of 1993, developed and managed by a dedicated SHE Officer. Every project carries its own safety file, risk assessments, and Letter of Good Standing before work begins on site.
What types of civil construction projects do you handle?
Roads and earthworks, pipeline and water systems, stormwater channels, building construction, steel structure erection, and geotechnical services — from single-scope contracts through to full design-and-construction turnkey projects.
Does Mbombi only work with government clients, or the private sector too?
Both, and our private sector work is a genuine strength — our current CIDB grade increase was driven by mining-sector contracts, not government work alone. We deliver for private mines, municipalities, and road maintenance agencies across South Africa.
Which provinces does Mbombi Holdings operate in?
We're headquartered in Midrand, Gauteng, with a permanent office in Limpopo. Our project footprint extends further — including completed water infrastructure work in Mpumalanga — and we mobilise nationally for the right contract.
